Provider profile
Virgin Media broadband, without the sales pitch
A UK cable operator running its own network rather than renting Openreach lines. Excellent speeds where it reaches — and simply unavailable on plenty of streets.
What it does well
- The fastest widely available speeds at addresses it reaches — up to gigabit without a phone line.
- Bundles TV, streaming and mobile into one bill, which is simpler than juggling four providers.
- Its own network means fewer parties involved when something needs fixing.
What to watch
- Availability is street-by-street. Around half of UK premises cannot get it at all.
- Advertised prices are introductory. Ask for the price after the first annual rise.
- Bundles are easy to grow and hard to shrink — check you can drop TV later without losing the discount.
- Network type
- Own cable network (not Openreach)
- Coverage
- Around half of UK premises — postcode dependent
- Phone line
- Not required for broadband
- Top speed
- Gigabit tiers in enabled areas
